Security forces trample human rights activists
In contradiction with all relevant international human rights conventions signed by the Tunisian Republic and the Tunisian laws themselves, human rights activists in Tunisia are still helpless victims of abusiveness, unfair pursuits, and the inhuman and illegal treatment by the security authorities.
In this context, on Thursday 20th December 2007, the second day of greater Bairam, the security forces surrounded the office of the Bizerta branch of the Tunisian organization for defending human rights to prevent members and human rights activists from getting to the office and felicitating Mr. Ali Ben-Salem, head of the organization, who lives in the floor above the office of the organization. Security forces pushed human rights activists so violently that Ben-Salem, the aged, sick man, fell down and was trampled by the security forces. As a result, Ben-Salem fainted and was moved to the local hospital in Bizerta. Security forces put pressures on the officials of the hospital to prevent them from documenting the injuries caused by them in the medical report.
The Arab Program for Human Rights Activists (APHRA) feels awfully sorry for this security-based approach to human rights activities and activists in Tunisia. It is evident that this approach is a stable strategy adopted by the state aiming at seizing and terrifying human rights activists and restraining their human rights activities. APHRA also stresses that these actions by the Tunisian security system contradict with the international covenant on civil and political rights, specially articles 7, 12 and 21 that prohibit torture and guarantee the rights to free movement and peaceful assembly respectively. They are also incompatible with the international declaration for human rights defenders.
APHRA demands the Tunisian authorities to initiate a fair, impartial and transparent inquiry of the December 20th events around the office of the Banzert branch of the Tunisian organization for defending human rights to identify the persons who injured Ali Ben-Salim and immediately present them to the judiciary authorities and to stop chasing human rights activists.
APHRA appeals to Arab and international civil society organizations to show solidarity with Tunisian human rights activists and exert to put an end to the illegal and inhuman harassments and security pursuits made by the security authorities.

قوات الأمن تدوس النشطاء بالأقدام
مازال النشطاء الحقوقيون في تونس يعانون الكثير من جراء التعسف و الملاحقات الامنية والاساليب غير الانسانية في التعامل معهم خارج إطار القانون وبالمخالفة لكافة المواثيق الدولية ذات الصلة والتي صادقت عليها الجمهورية التونسية ،بل وبالمخالفة للقوانين التونسية النافذة.
وفي هذا السياق قامت قوات الأمن في ثاني ايام عيد الأضحي،يوم الخميس الموافق 20 من شهر ديسمبر الجاري بتطويق مقر فرع بنزرت للرابطة التونسية للدفاع عن حقوق الإنسان لمنع نشطاء الرابطة التونسية من الوصول إليه ومعايدة رئيسه السيد علي بن سالم في منزله الموجود بالطابق الأول فوق مقر الفرع،وقامت بدفع النشطاء بعنف مما أدي إلي وقوع السيد علي بن سالم –رغم كبر سنه وحالته الصحية المتدهورة-مما أدي الي وقوعه وأكملت القوات الامنية السير علي جسده الضعيف، ففقد الوعي ونقل الي المستشفي المحلي في بنزرت،وقامت الأجهزة الامنية بالضغط علي مسئولي المستشفي لكي لا يتضمن التقرير الطبي الاصابات التي لحقت به.
إن البرنامج العربي لنشطاء حقوق الانسان وهو يأسف لهذا النهج الأمني الثابت تجاه نشطاء حقوق الإنسان في تونس من قبل الاجهزة الامنية مما يمثل استراتيجية منهجية وثابتة تهدف الي حصار النشطاء وارهابهم وتحجيم انشطتهم الحقوقية السلمية في أضيق الحدود،يري ان هذا المسلك يخالف العهد الدولي للحقوق المدنية والسياسية في عدد من بنوده واحكامه خاصة المواد أرقام:7،12،21 والتي تقرر حظر التعذيب،والحق في التنقل والحق في التجمع السلمي علي التوالي،كما يخالف المنهج الأمني التونسي الإعلان العالمي للمدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان جملة وتفصيلا.
إن البرنامج العربي يطالب السلطات التونسية بضرورة اجراء تحقيق عادل ونزيه وشفاف في الأحداث التي جرت يوم 20/12 أمام مقر الرابطة فرع بنزرت والكشف عن المتسببين في ما حدث للسيد علي بن سالم وسرعة تقديمهم للمحاكمة،كما يطالبها بأن تكف يدها عن نشطاء حقوق الانسان في تونس.
ويناشد البرنامج مؤسسات المجتمع المدني العربي والدولي التضامن مع النشطاء التونسيين لوقف ما يتعرضون له من مضايقات وملاحقات أمنية خارج إطار القانون الدولي والمحلي.
