The Unstable States of America
Abdelaziz Ben Dhia, the "brain of Ben Ali" and the skilled surgeon of the Tunisian Constitution, presides sometimes over the jury of the final oral exams at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Tunis. Ben Dhia asks a graduating student:
- When President Ben Ali took power in 1987, Ronald Reagan was the President of the USA. When Ben Ali was elected in 1989, George Bush Senior was serving his first and last term at the White House. When Ben Ali won the presidential election of 1994 by 99%, the US President was Bill Clinton. When Ben Ali was re-elected in 1999, Clinton was still in Washington serving his second and last term. When Ben Ali was elected again in 2004, George W. Bush was sitting at the Oval Office. Now as our beloved President is preparing to serve another five-year-term at the Palace of Carthage, the new tenant of the White House is called Barack Hussein Obama. After deeply analyzing these facts, could you please tell me your conclusion ?
- My conclusion is that the political situation in the United States is extremely unstable.
- Bravo ! Wonderful ! Congratulations, you got the best mark ! And, by the way, call my secretary tomorrow. Maybe I have a job for you.
